Poolside Beauty Must Haves

I don’t know about you but I think there’s nothing better in the summer than relaxing by the pool; especially when it’s as hot as it gets here in Sacramento! With the high temperatures and all the time I like to spend outside or in the water, I definitely have to be careful when it comes to protecting my skin from the sun.

First off, I always, always, ALWAYS wear sunscreen when I’m going to be outside for long periods of time. I have very fair skin and I burn really easily. Even worse, the sunburn doesn’t show up right away so sometimes I don’t even know that I’m getting burned until hours later when I’m as red as a lobster! I have had to train myself to be diligent and reapply my sunscreen products at least every 2 hours.

The Coppertone Defend and Care is my current favorite sunscreen to use on my body in SPF 50. I like that it’s quick drying and its very hydrating and nourishing on my skin. I’m also a sucker for sunscreen that come in a spray because it’s so quick and easy to apply. This one is also quick drying and doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky after being applied. Just make sure it’s not too windy out or you might miss some spots.

I use a different sunscreen for my face because I like the ones that are specially formulated for the face. I’m really loving the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel sunscreen in SPF 50. It feels so amazing on my skin and doesn’t feel greasy which is something I often find in sunscreens. It also keeps my skin feeling super moisturized and doesn’t clog my pores. And it’s oil free which is a must for me and my oily skin. It even looks great under my makeup!

On the days when I wear makeup, I use another sunscreen product to reapply as needed when I’m in the sun for extended periods of time. I’m totally obsessed with the Peter Thomas Roth Oily Problem Skin Instant Mineral Powder. It has SPF 30, so it provides plenty of sun protection. The brush applicator and translucent powder also make it super convenient for reapplying no matter what you’re up to that day.

Since I use so much sunscreen, I don’t tan very well even when I’m out I the sun a lot. To get the summer glow without the harmful rays from the sun or a tanning bed, I use sunless tanning products. If you have visited my blog before, then you know I’m obsessed with Loving Tan. Their Deluxe Bronzing Mousse is so easy to apply and gives my skin the perfect streak-free tan! I can apply it all over in about 15 minutes before I go to bed, then when I wake in the morning it looks like I just came back from a beach vacation. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend that you do.

A couple things that I like to always keep with me in the summer are oil blotting sheets to remove excess oil and sweat and facial spray for when I need a quick refresher from the heat. As far as oil blotting sheets go, I don’t have a favorite. I generally just buy whatever because I have found they all work about the same. But my go to facial spray is the Mario Badescu with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater. It’s so refreshing and instantly gives my skin a pick-me-up on the hottest summer days. The ingredients also make it super hydrating and good for my skin.

The summer heat can really take a toll on my lips, making them dry and chapped. My favorite product to combat this is the Vaseline Lip Therapy. It gives so much added moisture and its great under or on top of my favorite lip colors depending on if I want a glossy or matte look. I also really love the rosy lips version of this product. It’s great for when I don’t wear makeup or wear my no-makeup-makeup look. It adds a little bit of a tint but still looks really natural.

These are my must-haves for keeping my skin safe from the sun but also looking nice and tan for summer! So remember when you’re out in the sun this summer to use plenty of sunscreen to protect your beautiful skin!
